Just thinking about this, and very likely displaying all kinds of ignorance. Would it make sense to create 2 structures in IDM? One for people that's pretty flat... faculty, staff, students, etc... primary role only - but much more dynamic (because people are). Another structure that should remain pretty static, but it's much more complex... all based on position number... this structure can have any parent/child "reports to" data that SAP has populated into it. That structure could define departmental structures, etc.
Given Sun's product, would it be possible to reconcile the person "John" with his position number and place in the structure and have the benefit of both? Would be valuable in the long run, or just a bunch of work and frustration for nothing?
